Even though
Kansas City didn't start out racially segregated, it did play a
role in segregating cities in America, in fact, Kansas City still
to remains to be a very segregated city today. The Progressive
Youth Organization (PYO-KC) is an organization that is taking a
stance on capitalism and segregation because they want students to
join the act in order to earn a more self-governing
educationsystem. They want schools to inform students about a
system that misuses and tyrannizes them. One of the many issues
that they focus on is about replacing the conservative and racist
academic system that occurs today with a more self-governing and
systematic educational system. They want an education system that
informs enslaved students about our past

The
organization is based at the University of Missouri-Kansas City
(UMKC) and Metropolitan Community College (MCC) campuses around the
city. The organization is a youth based organization which
mistrusts people that are for oppression or have a special
interest to receive money and stand in the way of progress and
social change (Herrera). It seeks to bring forward revolutionary
and progressive politics to a large-scale of people in Kansas
City. They take stances on a lot of issues such as capitalism and
segregation among other issues as well. The way the organization
operates is done by building and supporting national-in-form
organizations (Black, Chicano/Mexicano, Asian, Latino, Muslim, Arab
etc.) on campus in schools in which PYO has a presence OR
multinational organizations that connect academic, cultural,
economic and social needs with revolutionary and progressive
politics (Constitution). They create events around the city by
organizing students to fight against problems that occur in the
Kansas City area. For instance, one of the problems they want to
draw attention to is the declining of Black and Latino enrollment
at UMKC where the university sits on the old segregation line in
Kansas City known as the Troost Line' Capitalism and Segregation
at The Roots. In other words, this is a problem because the
school"sits in a
city that is 30% percent black

The event is
about getting students to march from UMKC, through Rockhurst to
Troost and Paseo, the route starts and ends at UMKC, regarding one
of their statues that was posted on Facebook. The purpose of the
march is to call out on the demands of the movement strike at the
heart of the debt crisis by calling for a $15/hr. minimum wage for
all campus workers, the cancelation of all student debt, and
tuition-free public college (Redzeal). What this means is that
PYO-KC brought this movement to Kansas City to get students to
fight against all the forms in which segregation has been
institutionalized as well as to put an end to student debt. The
Million Student March has shown it has been effective because the
movement involved:
high
school, college, and graduate students, recent graduates,
campus workers, former students, parents, and grandparents who came
together on November 12th, 2015 to demand tuition-free public
college, cancellation of all student debt, and a $15 minimum wage
for all campus workers and they also had over 10,000 people in
the streets calling for a free and fair system of education, as
mentioned in the What Is #MillionStudentMarch website. The
movement has illustrated its successful and effectiveness because
they recently hosted another Million Student March on the 13th of
April of this year. This is all to prove
